When to Consider a Botox Touch-Up

If you want to tweak your Botox® results or you’ve seen the wrinkles start to reappear, it might be time for a touch-up.

Botox® can seem like a miracle cure for wrinkles — and it works extremely well. It isn’t, however, a permanent fix. Over time, you might decide you need a little adjustment, either because the wrinkles are coming back or you want to tweak your results.

As a specialist in Botox, Kenneth Warrick, MD, FAAD, at Atlantic Dermatology in Longs, South Carolina, can help you determine when it might be time for a touch-up and create a personalized plan that aligns with your cosmetic goals.

Here are two instances in which it makes sense to schedule some time with Dr. Warrick.

When your wrinkles start to reappear

Botox is highly effective for months at a time. The botulinum toxin temporarily freezes the muscles underneath your wrinkles, causing them to relax. Note, though, that we say “temporarily.”

Botox doesn’t permanently paralyze your muscles. Instead, its effects wear off over time. For a lot of people, the results last 3–4 months

You won’t wake up one day with your wrinkles fully back in action. Instead, you’ll notice they start to come back gradually.

This means the right time for a touch-up depends on your preference. If you want to stay fully wrinkle-free, you can come to see Dr. Warrick for a touch-up as soon as you notice the first sign of any furrow’s reappearance. If a busy schedule or tight budget encourages you to wait, Dr. Warrick will be ready to reapply Botox whenever you’re ready.

Here’s the good news: You may be able to go longer between touch-ups over time. The Botox might train your muscles to contract less even as the paralysis from the injection fades.

Whenever you start to get bothered by wrinkles again, Dr. Warrick can provide a touch-up treatment.

When your results need some tweaking

Some people choose to get Botox touch-ups even before the results from their cosmetic injectable fade. If you’ve seen another provider and you’re not happy with the results, come visit Dr. Warrick.

Whether you consider your Botox botched or just not in line with your expectations, he can help. While Botox can’t be dissolved like fillers, Dr. Warrick can potentially apply Botox and/or fillers to other parts of your face to improve the symmetry and overall appearance.

Finding the right cadence for your touch-ups

If you want to get on a set schedule for your Botox or tweak your results, come see Dr. Warrick for a dermatology consultation. He uses that time to understand your cosmetic goals and evaluate your skin. This way, he can create a plan to keep your wrinkles at bay throughout the years.
